A Kenya Revenue Authority manager and a revenue officer were on Monday arrested in Naivasha by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on accusations of soliciting bribes.

According to EACC communications officer Pamela Jepkemei, the arrests came after a manager at Lakeside Tourist Lodge lodged a complaint that the two had asked for a bribe worth Sh50,000 each on grounds that he did not issue the official ETR receipt as stipulated by KRA.

“We arrested a manager and a revenue officer for colluding in soliciting and receiving bribes from a client,” she said.

She said the two were served with the bribe in form of treated money after the EACC officers laid ambush in Naivasha town on Monday.

The two were locked up at the Naivasha police station for the better part of the day but later released on Sh100,000 each and a surety of a similar amount.

“We have to merge all our evidences before allowing them to take plea at our Rift Valley regional offices in a week’s time,” she added.

This comes a month after a police officer was arrested together with a Kenya Power and Lightening Company for colluding to fleece unsuspecting residents on accusations of having fake power connections.

“Nakuru is among earmarked areas where our officers are on daily secret swoops because of the increasing number of both reported and unreported corruption cases,” Jepkemei noted.
