The Kenya Power North Rift Regional Manager Daniel Tare has urged Kenyans living slums to apply for electricity which is now being connected at a subsidized rate.
Speaking during a media dinner at Sirikwa Hotel on Wednesday, Tare said the project is sponsored by the World Bank Global Partnership on Output based Aid in conjunction with Kenya Power in an effort to light all informal settlements in Kenya.
"The informal settlement electrification project is where people living in slums have an access to electricity through a very subsidized rate of Sh1,160," he said.
"I urge people living in informal settlements to use this chance and light their houses, they only need to have a sketch of where their reside, KRA PIN, national Identity Card and the application form and you are good to go,” he said.
He urged them to take care of the prepaid meters and avoid tempering with them and incase of any default the should report it to Kenya Power offices with an immediate effect.
