Hundreds of students at Awasi Girl’s Secondary school in Muhoroni Sub-County now have a reason to smile after Ogra Foundation promised to extend piped water to their school.

The school has been hard hit by water shortage with students having to travel long distances in quest for water for drinking and for personal use.

The school Head Girl Keziah Oyugi said lack of water has led to poor academic results among the girls in the school.

“There is serious water shortage in this area and our girls spend a lot of time going to the nearby rivers and streams that are far a way to fetch this precious commodity and most of their time is now not spent in classrooms studying but looking for water,” said Oyugi.

Speaking when he visited the school on Tuesday morning, Ogra Foundation Director Dr Hezron McObewa said they will extend the piped water to the school from Awasi town where they had put up a water point for the community the school.

McObewa said the water problem in Awasi had affected even learning institutions leading to poor performance adding that much still need to be done by elected leaders to change the situation.

“My organisation had given water to women in Awasi to help them with the precious commodity. What I would do is to pipe that water to this school to help the girls as well,” announced McObewa.

During the visit, McObewa also donated a 40-inch-flat screen Television to the students which had been requested by the school board Chairman Mr Festus Amimo.
