Juja Member of Parliament Francis Waititu has raised the red flag over con men going round in his constituency duping residents that they were Kenya Power officials.

He said many residents have lost their money to the con men.

The MP claimed the con men with fake Kenya Power identification and who are colluding with some chiefs were charging residents Sh3, 000 for power connection. Kenya Power charges Sh1, 160 for the service.

“The most affected wards are Juja and Witeithie where people have fallen prey to the con men. The group is insisting on spot on cash without giving receipts,” he said.

The said he had given the group a 14-day ultimatum to return the money they had collected from residents failure to which they will be arrested and taken to court.

He revealed that he has a list of the group’s members and chiefs involved in the scam.

“There are some chiefs who are behind this operation and I want to tell them that they will all face the law for defrauding citizens,” he said.

He added that all Kenya Power employees are supposed to have their badges at any given time and one should verify if the person he is dealing with is a genuine employee.

He urged the public to be careful when dealing with the company’s staff stating that con men were on the loose.

“If someone insists on cash just report him to the nearest police station since these are imposters and they want to tarnish KPLC’s reputation,” he added.
