Embattled Neno Evangelism Centre head pastor James Ng'ang'a has been slapped with new charges as the case in which he is accused of causing the death of Mercy Njeri took a new twist.

Prosecution led by Catherine Mwaniki on Thursday said the controversial pastor will now defend himself against five charges in a case in which he is also accused of causing fatal injuries to Ms Njeri's husband, Martin Mbugua in an accident in Limuru.

According to the prosecution, Mr Ng'ang'a will now answer to charges of operating a vehicle without insurance and an alternative charge of driving without carrying a vehicle insurance.

The slap now brings to five the charges the controversial pastor is set to answer before the Limuru Magistrates Court.

The pastor is also charged of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and giving false information to a public officer and conspiracy to defeat justice.

Mr Ng'ang'a is accused of causing the death of Ms Njeri on July Manguo in Limuru.

He however denies any involvement in the accident that also left Njeri's husband with fatal injuries.

Mr Ng'ang'a is accused alongside three others, two among them police officers who are accused of neglecting their duties and mishandling the pastor's case.

The other one, Simon Ng'ang'a is accused of giving false information to a public officer by pretending to have been the driver of the car that caused the accident.
