A Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Kisii County has supported the teachers strike and urged the national government to pay them their salaries.

Speaking on Monday in his ward, Reuben Choi Moreka from Bogetenga Ward accused the government of not taking the strike seriously saying students are still at home instead of being in school.

Moreka said the government should obey the court ruling that awarded the teachers the 50 t0 60 per cent pay increase so that they can go back to class.

“Teachers are demanding their rights according the court ruling, hence they should be paid before they can resume duty,” said the MCA.

He also urged parents to support teachers by pushing the government to pay them so that they can help their children.

“As parents, we need to support our teachers so that they can be paid and go back to school to help our children. Even though we know that our children are suffering, but let the government do something,” added Moreka

Moreka said the government has never fulfilled its promise to the teachers and this was the best time for them to be paid their dues before going back to class.
