There was dramaat Biashara street in Nakuru town near after a street boy bravely battled with a handbag snatcher managing to recover it.

According to eye witnesses, the boy identified as Mose took it upon himself to deal with the thief after the lady raised an alarm when her handbag was snatched.

“He gave chase through a corridor and back street before managing to catch up with him here along Biashara street,” said Elijah Kinyanjui who operates a barber shop in the area.

The thief who tried to fight back was apprehended and given a thorough beating before being frog matched to the Central police station.

Susan Mikwa, the lady whose handbag had been snatched lacked the words to thank the brave street boy saying that she would have lost all her valuables in the early morning ordeal.

“All my valuables including the Kshs 40, 000 that I was going to deposit in our chama account would have been stolen. I thank God for using the street boy to save the situation,” she said after giving Mose Kshs 3, 000 as her thank you reward.

The residents accused the police for not intensifying early morning and night patrols in a majority of the backstreets in the town thus subjecting them to suffer in the hands of thieves who take advantage.

“The real problem starts between 5 and 7am in the morning when no police is in the vicinity. The thieves take their time patrolling the areas ready to pounce on any unsuspecting pedestrians,” noted John Lagat who lost his phones and ATM card in a similar attack last week.

Central police boss Bernard Kioko however discouraged the general publics from taking the law into their hands saying that mob justice has no place in the modern society.

The street urchin who deservedly got praises from a majority of the eye witnesses gives a new definition to the boys on the street who have for long been associated with crime and begging.
