A section of Catholic priests in Kisumu have praised the county government for the good work it is doing in the fight against illicit brews.
Speaking on Monday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, the clerics led by priest George Adhiambo said the measure by the government has borne fruit.
He noted that most of the affected youth have quit drinking and are now engaging in constructive activities aimed at improving their living standards.
He congratulated the reformed addicts who were present, and urged them not to go back to drinking.
He at the same time urged the government to set up more rehabilitation centres to help the recovering addicts.
“The government should continue with the same spirit. Don’t relent until we clean up our society from alcoholism. It is our duty to take care of our children; we now have an obligation to reinstate them back into society. Suggest to them business ideas and motivate them towards achieving their goals,” said Adhiambo.
Meanwhile, the priest urged the public to accept back the reformed individuals in society instead of shunning and stigmatising them.
The public, added Adhiambo, needs to cooperate with the government in helping the youth noting that they are the country’s future leaders.
