Public officers have been challenged to engage citizens and create awareness on the ongoing government programmes, projects and existing policies.

Addressing public officers in Kiambu town on Thursday, County Commissioner Esther Maina said some programmes, projects and policies were not being understood by the people, hence raising feelings of disaffection.

She said the government had channels for dissemination of programmes, projects and policies, without which communities will be disengaged from government.

“When citizens are not aware of the programmes being undertaken in their localities, it clearly indicates that the constitution is being violated, she noted.

She added that the constitution calls for public participation in all projects and programmes being undertaken by the governments, adding that it is unconstitutional for officers to deny the public such information.

The county commissioner reiterated her call to officers to uphold integrity and guard against malpractices in service delivery, noting that the county was in the past rated among those engaging in corruption– an aspect that has tarnished its image in the face of investors.

The county boss further called on civil servants to offer services to wananchi without compromising quality, saying what the people want are quality services.
