Nakuru government has given the green-light for the construction of 150 modern market stalls for youth in most of its sub-counties.
County executive committee member for Lands Rachel Maina said the exercise will be funded by the county government in partnership with the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.
It will cost Sh38 million, and will begin in Naivasha after which it will spread to Njoro, Nakuru Town east and west, Kuresoi and Gilgil sub-counties.
The CeC who spoke on Thursday said youth need a conducive and enabling avenue to conduct business.
"The county government has embarked on all these exercises to enable youth earn a decent living by trading in an enabling environment and that is why these modern stalls will come in handy," she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by the Fund's senior communication and infrastructure manager David Mathenge who said there was need to help the youth realise their potential through trade in a friendly environment.
In the allocation rationale, Naivasha will get 30 stalls, Gilgil 20, Kuresoi 10, Njoro 20 while Nakuru town east and west sub counties will share the remaining 70.
