Kiambu County government plans to set up smoking zones following complaints from residents concerning their health.
Speaking Tuesday at the county council offices, Kiambu Sub-County ward administrator Antony Kibathi said plans to construct smoking zones in Kiambu Town were on course.
This follows a meeting with the area public health officer concerning the welfare of residents who fear developing chest complications.
Kibathi said they hope to set up the zones in a week’s time. He said they were waiting for the physical planner to identify the specific places for the construction.
He revealed they have received complaints from residents concerning their health since smokers do their stuff in the open.
The administrator said the delay in the construction of the zones had been occasioned by many development projects the county was undertaking.
Julia Wairimu hailed the move noting that it will limit smoking to specific places.
The mother of two added that she had worries that her boys would also pick up the behaviour too.
On his part, Joseph Ipanoi said that it was a great development as now they will have a spot where they will smoke without fear of being arrested.
