People living with disabilities in Thika West Sub-County have formed a group as an avenue to champion for their rights.

Thika West Sub-County Disability Development Forum secretary Nancy Nyamenya said the group will unify all disabled people in the region and provide them with an opportunity to help them attract resources from county and national governments.

Nyamenya urged all disabled people not to shy away from asking for their share of services from both governments.

“People living with disabilities should be firm in seeking county funds by applying for tenders and jobs in Kiambu government,” she said.

Dennis Mukiri was elected the group’s chairman during the Tuesday polls held at Thika Probations hall in which 218 people living with disabilities attended.

He called on the newly elected leaders to front for the group’s interest to help uplift their livelihoods.

“We have now been mandated to front for your rights without fearing or relenting. We now have a responsibility of directing you as well us presenting your decisions to relevant authorities. We are ready to do all that,” said Mukiri.

Dorcas Karimi, Patrick Kiringu, Ann Wambui and Titus Mugo were also elected as vice person, vice secretary, coordinator and treasurer respectfully.
