The CeC in charge of Environment, Energy and Water Resources in Uasin Gishu County Mary Njogu has banned the dumping of waste products in Sosiani River with immediate effect.
Speaking on Saturday during a clean-up exercise in Eldoret town organised by church leaders, Njogu said companies are fond of dumping litter in the river, not keeping in mind that they are a threat to people’s health since most Eldoret residents use it for their home consumption.
“I have been at the river and found out that a lot of companies’ waste products are dumped anyhow along and in the river,” she said.
“That practice is unwarranted and I give a stern warning to those involved in the practice that their days are numbered, and soon will be arrested and prosecuted since you are putting residents’ lives at stake,” she said.
“Eldoret is our town, and Uasin Gishu is our county that we are mandated to keep it clean and anyone littering is an enemy to cleanliness and conducive environment, I want to make Eldoret town the cleanest town in East and Central Africa,” she added.
