Naivasha East MCA Samuel Waithoki has said that alcoholics should not be beaten up or arrested or apprehended if the vice is to be eradicated.
According Waithoki, it would be more realistic to allow them time to reflect on the direct effect alcohol, which he referred to as refined chemicals, would pose on their bodies other than beating them up and arresting them.
Speaking in his Ward on Wednesday after witnessing more than 100 liters of chemicals suspected to used in the illegal brew business being destroyed, Waithoki said that ignorance was a major contributor to alcohol addiction.
“It’s sad that our younger people keep on dying because of such poisonous substances,” he said.
Quotingthe bible, the MCA said that an awareness campaign for the youth would enable them to make informed decisions.
“Even the bible says, we suffer due to the lack of knowledge, my wish is that our young people be acquainted with the required knowledge on the effects of these chemicals then allow them to decide what’s good for them.”
Waithoki argued that it was the finished product that was always at our disposal but if people could examine the combination of chemicals that produces their drinks, a majority wouldn’t be drinking.
“I was really appalled when I saw how the chemicals burned grass in less than a minute upon being poured. I imagined it happening inside somebody’s body,” he said.
