Residents in Racecourse area in Eldoret have been warned against consuming the 20 sheep said to have been killed by "strange" wild animals on Monday night.

Speaking to Hivisasa on Tuesday in his office, Uasin Gishu County Veterinary services director Joseph Njuguna said the county government would dispose the carcasses by burning them to prevent the possibility of disease transmission.

“We have not yet confirmed the safety of the meat nor have we identified the supposed killer wild animal. As such consuming that meat is endangering human life,” he said.

Residents have blamed the Kenya National Wild Service for the attacks by stray wild animals that left more than 20 goats dead in the area.

Peter Kebati a worker in one of the affected farms said an animal sneaked into the fenced farm and attacked the animals in the early hours of Monday.

"It was around 3am in the morning when the strange animal appeared, I thought it was a wild dog but it was very huge. I couldn’t chase it away,” said Kebati.

Residents have threatened to kill any animal that wanders into their farms if the situation persists.
