Eleven children were reported missing in Mavoko Sub-County since the closure of schools for the August holidays, area children's officer Faith Kamau has said.
Kamau said majority of the children were those who had visited the town for the holidays from their rural villages across the country.
"My office received eleven cases of children who went missing over the month of August when schools had closed for the holidays, most of them hailed from their rural homes across the country," said Kamau.
Kamau said the children had visited their relatives who live within the sub-county but got lost in unexplained circumstances.
According to Kamau, some of the children drawn from rural areas had visited the town for their first time saying that this contributed to the situation since they were not familiar with the traffic and high population.
Kamau said her office worked tirelessly with members of the public to trace and rescue the children.
"All the eleven children were found and handed over to their caretakers," she told HiviSasa on Friday.
Kamau expressed fears that idling of children due to the ongoing national teachers strike would lead to children getting lost while urging guardians to be careful with all children under their care so as to avoid reoccurrence of other such incidents.
