Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company is piloting a digital metre reading project that aims at improving water billing accuracy.
Company Managing Director Eng David Onyango said the digital system will come with a host of advantages to the customers and the company.
Onyango said the technology will send readings to a computerised billing system and will largely eliminate the need for estimated bills.
He said this will also reduce the number of personnel reading the meters noting that the system will also handle customer complaints.
“The company is in the process of implementing an Integrated Mobile Utility management system that will automate some critical processes like handling customer complaints and managing meters,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday at Imperil Hotel during an event to celebrate the Company’s ISO 9001:2008 re-certification award, Mr Onyango announced that the company was recently audited by the International Water Association.
“As we implement and maintain ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management system, we commit to a process of continuous improvement of our processes through feedback obtained from scheduled audit programs,” he said.
He said the international water body had certified the company for its water safety planning.
Onyango said KIWASCO will strive to bring on board products that are customer friendly.
He said the company has taken an approach in boosting its operations by partnering with other institutions to help customers settle their bills.
