Kiambu County Water, Environment and Social Services CeC Esther Njuguna has said that her docket will dispatch a team of experts to Kanjata dumping site to assess the environmental impact caused by dumping of waste solid.

The directives comes barely after a day after residents of Kanjata protested over dumping of waste in the area.

The residents claimed that the dumping site has been a nuisance to them in addition to posing a health risk.

Some residents claimed that over 20 children had fallen sick after inhaling toxins from the dumping site.

Addressing journalists at Kiambu Town on Thursday, Njuguna said the team will assess the environmental challenges being posed by the dumping site to surrounding residents.

“The team will asses the physiochemical and biological factors and forward the assessment back to county government,” said Njuguna.

Njuguna also said that the county government of Kiambu is planing of relocating the dumping site to a safe place.

“The county government has put in place measures to relocate the dumping site after concerns were raised by local residents,” said Njuguna.

She further disclosed that her docket will continue to carry out complete assessment of ecological performance of other existing dump sites in the county to make sure they do not pose health crisis to local residents.
