Dairy farmers in Gatundu North Constituency have appealed to Kiambu County  and well-wishers to help them set up a milk processing plant in the area.

They said milk production in the area had improved and the plant will help boost their incomes through value addition.

The 365 dairy farmers observed that the current milk production stands at daily production of over 19,080 litres supplying the seven cooling plants that are located in various parts in the sub-county.

Speaking at Gatamaiyu Dairy Hall in Gatundu town during an annual general meeting, the chairman, Martin Gitau, said urged the county government and investor to come to their aid.

“Dairy farming has empowered our women in this region. They can now easily access soft loans at various cooling plants where they deliver their milk,” said Gitau.

He observed that the farmers decided to come up with a small bank at every cooling plant to enable them secure loans and expand their businesses.

One of the farmers, Joyce Mugure, asked women in Mataara and Gakoe to identify projects that are suitable in the region and venture in.
