West Kisumu Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Paul Okiri has lamented the delay by Kenya Power to address a power blackout in Nyahera, Kisumu West Constituency which entered its fourth on Friday.

The MCA noted that the problem started on Tuesday and the power distributor has done nothing so far.

Speaking to Hivisasa in his ward office in Sinyolo, Okiri said the status quo was compromising security as many crimes such as murders and robberies have been reported in the area since the blackout started.

"Due to the power blackout, thugs can now roam freely without fear of being seen or found while engaging in their criminal activities. Something should be done by Kenya Power as we are losing residents to thugs," said the MCA.

Meanwhile, Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyng'o's personal assistant, Babu Karan has hailed residents for taking part in a peaceful demonstration to protest against the rising insecurity in the town.

The demonstration which was started at Taifa Park in Kisumu on Thursday, is expected to go on to push the police to address insecurity in the region.
