Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has accused his deputy Bernard Kiala of corruption and abuse of office.

Speaking during a press conference at his office on Monday, Mutua claimed that his deputy took pipes that were meant for the Sh15 million Kivauni irrigation scheme and had them fixed at his resident for his own private domestic use.

"Kiala is misusing his power to steal from the public for his personal benefit. Recently he took pipes meant for an irrigation scheme that could have benefited thousands of citizens but are instead benefiting him alone," said Mutua.

In his defence, the deputy governor termed Mutua's allegations as baseless claims.

Kiala said Mutua should take his accusations before a court of law, adding that he was innocent and it was time for Governor Mutua to stop engaging in hate speech directed towards his fellow Machakos County administrators.

However, a committee has been assigned to investigate the matter with the governor promising to give evidence that will prove Kiala is a corrupt leader.
