Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama on Friday suspended four CeCs and two chief officers over corruption allegations levelled against their respective departments in a report tabled in the county assembly on 30th July 2015.

The six county officials have been asked to step aside to pave way for investigations of corruption and mismanagement of funds under their watch.

Addressing the press in his office, Nyagarama said that it was an honourable thing for the ministers and the chief officers to step aside so as to give the five-member committee elected on Thursday by the county assembly time to investigate their conduct.

“Following communication from the county assembly dated August 6 on the implementation report dated 30th July, I wish to do some reorganisation of Nyamira County government in exercise of powers bestowed upon me as the governor and therefore ask the four CeCs and two chief officer mentioned in the report to step aside to facilitate fair investigations on the allegations made against them," said Nyagarama.

He added that the period will be determined by the duration the committee tasked to investigate them takes to finalise its findings.

“The period of stepping aside will be determined by the duration the respective committee will take to conclude the investigations," he added.

The four CeCs are Mr John Omanwa in charge of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Kefa Osoro (Roads and Transport), Mr Peter Omwansa (Youth, Gender and Sports) and Mr Frank Ombati (Water and sanitation). The chief officers are Mr Earnest Morara (Roads and Transport) and Mrs Fridah Nyaboga (Youths, gender and sports departments).

Their departments are alleged to have flouted the procurement laws and engaged in mismanagement of funds.
