The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates in Kikuyu sub-county on Thursday had to wait for an hour and a half to sit their first paper after heavy rains disrupted transportation of papers due to traffic jam.
Kikuyu Township Secondary School examination supervisor Alex Lusenji said the delay was occasioned by the heavy rains which caused a heavy traffic snarl up coming into Kikuyu.
He said some papers were rained on and were wet when they arrived, adding that the exams will go on as scheduled.
Lusenji said the delay in administration of exams because of the rains can also create room for leakages, adding that they are working to ensure it doesn't happen at the exam centre.
Nancy Imbhale, a supervisor at Kingeero Secondary School said the papers arrived two hours late noting that it will cause a lot of inconveniences in timing.
"The duration of the break we have between one exam to the other is minimal and its main reason to avoid any kind of leakages. With such delays in exams due to the rains, it is inconveniencing because some centres could have started other papers hence giving a leeway for leakages to these ones here," said Imbhale.
She said the rains will be a major challenge as remote areas of Kiing'ero where the school is have poor roads.
