The Mombasa County government has launched an electronic business permit issuance system aimed at increasing revenue collection in the county.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Hassan Joho said the county government launched the new system to improve revenue collections.
He added that the initiative seeks to attract more investors into the county to boost economy. The system will allow traders to apply and pay for a business permit through an electronic system.
Joho said, “It will be easier and faster for businesses to pay through electronic systems and apply for licences electronically. As a government, we are committed to provide systems that are simple and user friendly to facilitate business activities.”
“The single business permit will regulate business enterprises within the county. The new system will increase the county’s revenue and provide a conducive environment for investment,” he added.
The governor who was speaking on Monday at a hotel in Mombasa added that the new system will also help in reducing corruption as it will minimise direct contact between taxpayers and county officials.
County trade executive Mohamed Abdi who was also present during the launch said the new system is expected to increase Mombasa County’s revenue collection from the current Sh1.7 billion to about Sh2.5 billion.
“When the new system is rolled out, the county government expects the registered number of businesses to rise to 100,000 from the current 30,000,” Abdi said.
