Kibera women have been urged to come together and form groups to boost their income and make bigger strides in improving their livelihood.

Women groups have been credited with helping unemployed women engage in income generating activities by pooling funds together to start from hotels to even farming ventures.

Speaking in her office, Elizabeth Aluoch, the treasurer of a Star Shine Agwambo Women's Group in Sarangombe Ward in Kibera urged the women to embrace the women group culture.

"I congratulate Star Shine for the good job they are doing. More women too should come up with small groups to help them earn some money," said Aluoch.

Star Shine Agwambo Women Group in Kibera has since its formation helped women start small businesses to improve their self-reliance.

"At Star Shine, different women both employed and unemployed have come together to hold harambees which help boost one member live her dream. Most of them venture in small scale farming where they plant vegetables in containers," she added.

Abigail Atieno said she is has had the privilege of joining the group saying it has helped her learn how to make money without depending on others.

"Star Shine has helped me start my own business. Now I sell clothes and I don’t depend on my husband for everything," she says.
