Juja MP Francis Waititu has called for restructuring of the administration of Stephjoy Boys High School where two students died after a fire broke out in one dormitory.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday Waititu said that restructuring was needed to prevent student discontent.

Waititu said institution’s management is responsible for the deaths and injuries sustained by the students. He says the institution has neglected the children and treats them like adults.

“The treatment that the students gets there could have been the major cause of the burning of the dormitories. It is like they are living in a rehabilitation centre rather than a school,” he said.

The legislator has faulted the school CEO Joyce Mugambi saying that the institution has been ignoring safety measures to avoid accidents.

He has dismissed claims that the students are in panic over the mock examinations saying that students are in school to be shown the right direction.

“When I was in school I also hated exams very much, but teachers are there to show you to the right track and give room for the students to achieve what they want. These people are killing the children’s passion in education,” he added.
