Kenya Power will soon launch a programme to sensitise Kisii residents on the safe handling of electricity.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kisii, the company's Kisii County manager, Chris Omwenga said they would work with the county government of Kisii to sensitise residents on ways to avoid accidents associated with electricity.
“We have put in place proper mechanisms to teach Kisii residents about the dangers associated with electricity. We will carry out the exercise soon in collaboration with the county government,” Omwenga said.
This comes at a time when a number of electrocution incidents have been reported in the county.
In one incident, two weeks ago, Alloys Ouru, 35, was electrocuted at Boronyi village in Kiogoro Division while he was cutting a tree near power lines.
In another incident, a week ago, Joseph Mayaka was electrocuted during a heavy downpour while he was walking to the new Keroka stage behind Tuskys Supermarket in Kisii town when faulty live power cables reportedly fell on him.
“I call upon residents to report any electrical fault so that our officers can rush and rectify the problem,” appealed Omwenga.
He added, “Anybody who wants to cut down trees near power lines should consult our company.”
Meanwhile, Kisii County Commander of police Simon Kiragu has warned residents against tampering with electricity connections.
