Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said cases of bhang possession had increased in the past four months to an extend of four to five minors being arrested in a day.

He said those who were arrested were mostly high school students who are helping the police to identify those involved in the illegal business.

The police boss explained that those peddling the drugs had gone to the extent of using high school students who sell the drugs to other students in school.

He asked school heads to report of cases of drug possession in schools as it is against the law and should be handled accordingly.

Maweu said the peddlers are a great menace to the society as they have greatly influenced the community negatively by causing some youths to become criminals while others end up becoming addicts.

"This is a serious crime that we are fighting as it has taken root in our schools. We have some information about these peddlers and we are on the look out to ensure we curb this crisis. However, I want to ask parents and teachers to play a big role in this fight by reporting such and be vigilant of their children’s behaviour," said the OCPD.

He asked those peddling the drugs to stop engaging in the criminal activity as it may land them to serious trouble.
