Kisii Assembly members may start holding occasional ward sittings if a bill by Nyamasibi MCA Samson Nyagaka sails through.
“There will be sittings in select wards out of the 45 in the county to sensitise members in the grassroots of what the house does,” Mr Nyagaka said.
Discussion began on Thursday in the assembly with resolutions expected in the next few days.
In moving the motion, the MCA stressed that the constitution gives citizens a fundamental right to be incorporated into the affairs of county governance.
“This should be done through participatory public forums to promote social and economic development through inclusivity,” he said.
He said this will be achieved if members legislated to allow their participation in grass root sessions.
“The assembly has never held open-air sittings at the wards to afford the residents a chance to listen to their MCA’s debate on areas of priority how they are legislated and development projects are over sighted,” he added.
He expressed concern that residents at the ward level didn’t have access to live debates during the normal assembly sitting’s.
“I therefore urge that open air sittings be taken to various wards in the county,” he said.
