Kisii County government has been challenged to open new youth polytechnics and expand the existing ones to create room for more school leavers in the county.

Speaking on Friday at the burial of Nyagaka Nyawencha an official of Getare self help group, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) treasurer Masaba branchEvans Kalulu Bonuke said the county government should come up with a better way of handling the school leavers and nurture them to be better citizens.

He said the number of youth polytechnics should be increased and if possible every village should have at least one such institution.

“We the youths have a lot to give to our county and country at large but we need sense of direction from both leaders and government of the day. I challenge all education stakeholders and the county assembly to device a way of dealing with our youths,’’ Kalulu said.

He challenged youths saying the region will never realise its bargaining power in leadership if the youth won’t take their education seriously.

He said the only sure way is to educate even the common people.

He advised that youths take courses that will give them skills to depend on for their future and make the best out of them.
