Diocese of Eldoret Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir has asked county governments to stop hiring and recruiting workers from one tribe and instead have a mixture of all the 42 tribes in their workforce.
Speaking to journalists in his Eldoret office on Sunday, the Bishop claimed that 80 per cent of counties across the country have workers from one tribe a move which threatens integration and cohesion.
Bishop Korir said that recruitment of workers in counties is done on tribal grounds and asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to intervene.
“We are worried by the tribal recruitments in most of the counties across the county,” said Korir.
Korir further accused some county governments of personalising devolution and service delivery.
He asked county governments to recruit workers from all tribes and communities for cohesion and integration to be achieved.
“County governments must have a mixture of people from different tribes and communities in their workforce,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishop asked NCIC to start conducting campaigns that will foster unity especially in areas that are conflict prone.
He said the mandate of NCIC is to foster unity among Kenyans adding that unity across the country will lead to realisation of development.
