Stiff penalties await you if you are found carrying more than one passenger on a motorcycle in Kuresoi, area police boss has said.
During a public baraza at Sirikwa shopping centre on Thursday, area OCPD David Wambua cautioned bodaboda operators against flouting traffic laws saying that the number of unavoidable accidents being witnessed in the area was not something to sit back and assume.
“Our young boys don’t want to follow simple traffic rules, as law enforcers, we are concerned because it is our responsibility,” he said.
The police boss called on passengers to be wary of operators out to make quick money from them while endangering their lives.
“As a passenger, your life must always be protected at any given time. Don’t compromise your safety and pay for it,” he noted, adding that in the case of an accident, the operators mostly run away leaving them hurt and stranded.
Meanwhile, the police boss has called on parents and guardians to help them fight crime in the area by ensuring that their youth were preoccupied in productive activities.
“Gambling and playing cards at the shopping centre is an indicator of idleness which fuels crime. Let’s work together for a safer community,” he advised.
