A landlord and her tenant were on Friday arraigned in a Nakuru court to answer to burglary charges.

Jane Wanjiru and James Maseye are accused of allegedly breaking into David Njenga's house and stealing two mattresses, a stove, a plastic chair worth Sh5, 000on October 19 at Mau Narok in Nakuru County.

Wanjiru was also charged with an alternative account of handling stolen property, a brief case, two shirts, trouser and two bed sheets, all valued at Sh4, 500 in her house on the same day.

She told the court that Maseye came with other three people who left the goods pretending that they would come back and get them.

"They came to me and requested me to keep the property for them. I accepted because they are my tenants, I did not know that they had broken into a house," she said.

Maseye told the court that he did not steal the goods but that he had taken them because the complainant owed him Sh3,000 and he had refused to refund him.

Appearing before Principle Magistrate Wakumile Ndururu, they both pleaded not guilty and urged the court to give them reasonable bond and also promised to bring the others once they are out.

They were released on Sh10,000 cash bail. The case will be heard on December 15.
