A politician in Njoro Sub-County has called on residents to have manageable families so as to avoid cases of street children and beggars.
Speaking in his backyard on Monday, Lare Ward MCA Kabuu Wauth advised parents to have children that they will be able to take care.
“Let’s not burden ourselves by giving birth to children that will make our lives difficult, have a sizeable family that will make good use of your resources without exhausting them,” he said.
The local leader called on health practitioners at the Njoro Sub County Hospital to start an initiative to educate residents on the importance of family planning.
“We live in a society where resources are scarce. Some of these people are suffering because of lack of knowledge, my worry is how a family will fend for more than seven children with poor parents or those who have unstable jobs,” Wauth noted.
He advocated for safer sexual practices saying that ignorance and irresponsible practices had resulted in teenage pregnancies and run away parents.
“Any parent out here should take the initiative of taking proper care of the family; let your children learn from you so that the rot in society is dealt with. What we are experiencing in our modern family setting is sad,” he added.
He further advised youth to go for alternative small-scale businesses that will make them self-reliant other than competing in the bodaboda business.
“Form groups then make proposals to me, I will ensure the Youth Fund office works with you in setting up small businesses that will keep you busy,” he advised.
