A man is nursing serious injuries at the Kikuyu Hospital after he was hit by a matatu when he opted to cross the southern bypass instead of using the flyover. According to an eye witness, Thomas Muia, the man seemed to be in a hurry and opted to cross just below the flyover.
He added that despite being in a hurry he was also concentrating on his phone when crossing the road.
"Before crossing the road, he had spoken on phone so when he opted to cross the road and not use the flyover I saw him look at the phone again and there and then the matatu hit him throwing him away from the road," said Muia, an eyewitness.
According to another witness, Grace Njeru after the man was hit some area youths pretended to go his aid and robbed him of his phone and money.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD SSP, Mutune Maweu said that the man was hit as a result of his own negligence. He added that it was a crime not to use a flyover and that the matatu was not in the wrong .
"I send a warning to area locals to ensure they use the flyovers and avoid risking crossing the southern bypass as it is a busy road," said Maweu. He revealed that anyone found crossing without using the flyover will be arrested and charged.
