A 25 year old man was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Thika court after he was found guilty of defiling a 9 year old girl.
Before Thika Resident Magistrate Esther W Mburu was Simon Gicharu, charged with two counts of intentionally and unlawfully defiling a minor and indecent assault.
He was accused that on October 9 this year at Karibaribi village in Thika West sub county in Kiambu county, he forcefully defiled the minor in his rental house.
According to a witness, Magdaline Gichane, the suspect had forcefully dragged the minor into his house and forcefully defiled her as she screamed in pain.
The court heard that the girl thereafter reported the incident to her mother who took her to Naidu Hospital in Thika where she received treatment.
She was later transferred to Thika Level Five Hospital where they filled a P3 form and reported the matter to Thika Police station.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency, saying he was a first time offender but Magistrate Mburu would have none of it saying the offense is rampant in the region and a deterrent sentence was necessary.
The accused was given fourteen days liberty to appeal against the ruling.
