A 50-year-old man was on Tuesday night robbed killed and robbed of Sh70,000 cash at Keroka moments after leading a fundraising.

Confirming the incident, Keroka OCPD Patterson Maole said, Francis Kinuthia was killed at around 9am before reaching his home in the outskirts of the town.

“He had just left Flamingo hotel where he chaired the event. We have learnt that he had been given the money for safekeeping,” said Maore.

The police say the man was hit on his forehead using a blunt object and died on the spot. The money he was supposed to have was not recovered at the scene.

They say they are pursuing a suspect whom the deceased was seen talking to.

“He could be the one who organized attack on the businessman to rob him money,” he added.

While addressing the press in his office on Tuesday, the Keroka police boss said they have arrested an ex-convict in connection with other recent attacks in the area, and he will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

He however warned residents against carrying large sums of money instead of depositing them in banks and mobile money service providers for safekeeping.

He denied assertions by residents that insecurity in the town is contributed by some of the police officers who they say have allegedly stayed in the station for more than seven years.

“No officer has stayed here for more than seven years, that I can confirm. There is nothing like a civilian arresting people with handcuffs,” he said.

Some of the residents, who spoke to the press claim that there is a group of people masquerading as police causing fear in the area. They allege police in the area have turned a blind eye on the issue.
