A section of parents from Mavoko Sub-County have condemned the proposal to do away with the national examinations in schools.
Led by their spokesperson, George Ong'er, the parents said that if the proposal is effected, it would render the 8-4-4 system useless.
"We strongly as parents from Mavoko condemn the proposal to scrap national examinations in primary and secondary schools because it will render the 8-4-4 system useless," said Ong'er.
The parents who addressed press in Athi River town on Friday said there was no need for children to go to school for either eight or 12 years and not be examined.
Ong'er faulted the originator of a Bill in Parliament, Ugenya MP, David Ochieng' over what he termed as misleading Kenyans on the education system.
Jesinter Mwiti on her part said though every citizen has a constitutional right to express his or her opinion, those supporting the proposal do not mean well for children of this nation.
According to Mwiti, majority of the legislators have their children either studying abroad or undergoing other educational systems such as GCE contrary to the 8-4-4 system and therefore their children would not be affected if the proposal was adopted.
Another parent, John Njoroge, on his part said the government should not heed to the calls of such leaders whom he argued do not have the interest of the public at heart.
Njoroge said the leaders who were pushing for such a bill are self-centered hence should be ignored for the best interest of the common man’s child.
The parents said they do not have issues with their children doing examinations arguing that majority of the politicians who were faulting the system had exactly gone through it and become what they are today.
They called on other parents in the country to condemn the proposal.
