Residents of Mavoko Sub-County have been urged to replace old generation national identification cards so as to benefit from government and corporate incentives.

This call was made by Mavoko assistant county commissioner David Tegutwa who said there were certain individuals from the region who still hold the old generation national identification cards.

"I call on all those from Mavoko Sub-County who still hold the old generation national identification cards to bring them over to our offices for immediate replacements," said Tegutwa.

Addressing journalists in his office in Athi River Town on Wednesday Tegutwa said such cards had for a long time denied the residents access to several benefits as Kenyans.

"Those outdated identification cards can never be accepted any where for either recognition as a Kenyan or business transaction," said Tegutwa.

According to Tegutwa, the elderly were the most affected given that majority of them are the ones who still hold such documents that have for along time made them poor since they can neither access banks nor any other financial transactions including the Safaricom's M-Pesa services.

Tegutwa said it was not late for the elderly to obtain the new generation digital identification cards so as to benefit from available opportunities that include public funds such as those meant for elderly persons, women enterprise development and Uwezo Funds, not limited to biding for various tenders at both county and national governments.
