Athi River Township Member of County Assembly, Michael Mutua, has asked Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company's management to open up blocked drainage systems in the town to prevent possible disease out breaks.
Addressing a section of residents who had gone to present their complaints on the state of the drainage at his Athi River home on Saturday, Mutua said he is aware that the systems are in pathetic conditions hence posing health hazards to the residents.
"I have heard your grievances as far as the state of drainage systems within Athi River affect you and your families and we will take immediate action," said Mutua.
Mutua told the residents that he was well informed of the sorry conditions of the drainage system since he is also affected as a resident.
He said the residents were very lucky that the recently reported cases of cholera outbreaks in Mlolongo and Athi River Towns were managed, before spreading to the highly populated area where majority of the residents live under poor hygienic conditions.
Mutua called on the residents to be patient and remain calm as he picks the matter with the company's management which he said he has confidence in since its performance has been outstanding over the years.
The county legislature also lauded the region's provincial administration and police, headed by the Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Kodeck Makori and police boss Kizito Mutoro, for effectively fighting illicit liquor and their brewers in the ward.
He said most of the dangerous liquor especially Busaa, Chang'aa and Kangara had in the past been brewed in large scale at the slums under in-hygienic conditions where sewage flows in large quantities.
Mutua promised to address all the residents' complaints stating that it is his constitutional role to fully represent and fight for rights of his electorates.
