The Ministry of Health and all stakeholders have been challenged to come up with a solution on how to keep old mosquito nets after after distributing new ones to the public.

According to a sub county public health officer from Marani in Kisii County Thomas Oirere, the ministry faces a challenge of old nets disposal that are now accumulating at peoples' homes.

Mr Oirere is now urging the ministry and all stakeholders to come up with a solution on how old nets are supposed to be kept to save the environment from pollution.

“We have many old nets at our homes but the challenge is how we keep them. We need to come up with the best solution on how to dispose them,” he added.

He also said that since the mosquito nets are always treated using chemicals, they are unfriendly to the environment when disposed anywhere.

“These nets are always treated hence they are environmental unfriendly when disposed anywhere, sometimes you find farmers burying them without knowing that they affect the soil,” added Mr Oirere.
