Imams and other Muslim clerics in Nakuru County have applauded the Judiciary for jailing one of their own for child trafficking.

Speaking at a Nakuru hotel on Thursday, the clerics expressed their satisfaction with Senior Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku’s judgement. They said the sheik’s act was inhuman and “totally against the Muslim teachings”.

“That was against our faith and uncalled for if at all the accused attended our Islam teachings,” Sheikh Abdala, who spoke on behalf of the more than 10 clerics, said.

Sheikh Ali Samoja, who purported to be the head of Bilal Muslim Mission Centre, was last week jailed for liaising with a Lebanon nationalist to traffic a defiled child from Kenya.

The Imams accused Samoja of being an imposter who was out to taint the image of the Muslim faith.

“We sense malice in his position as our research has revealed that Samoja is not a member of our Nakuru family of Islamic Clerics,” the Sheikh said.
