Mwariki estate residents in Nakuru town have appealed to the police to increase surveillance in the area days after a form 2 student was killed.

The residents want the police to intensify patrols and arrest the suspect who they claim could be on a mission for more killings.

Sharon Kairitu, a tailor at the estate says that there has been anxiety and fear following the killing of the student on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to Hivisasa on Tuesday Kairitu said there is need for law enforcers to move with speed to apprehend the suspect for calm to be restored.

“There is a state of anxiety, fear and confusion among residents here especially after the student was killed on Saturday,” she said.

Ms Kairitu’s concerns were shared by the estate security official Mr Emmanuel Kinuthia who asked the police to conduct more patrols.

He said that though there is surveillance within the state there is need for more police officers to assure residents of their security.

“Things are not the way they used to be here since the boy was murdered in broad daylight,” said Kinuthia.

The residents have accused officers of laxity in taming crime in the state. They want the county commissioner to intervene and have them transferred or sacked.

The assailant is said to have invaded the boy’s home while his parents were attending a church service and stabbed him several times. The boy who studied at Shah Lalji Nangpar Academy in Nakuru succumbed to the injuries before neighbours could take him to hospital.
