A youth leader in Nakuru County has criticised an earlier decision by a section of the youth in the county to sue the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).

Njuguna Kimani, who is also the Nakuru youth advisor to the governor termed the move as ill-advised despite saying their intentions were genuine and legitimate.

“The earlier court petition by youth was not necessary. Suing the appointing authority was ill-advised. However I am appealing for the consideration of the youth in appointments to the power generating firm,” he said.

Kimani pointed out that the last time the company recruited graduate trainees was in 2013.

He was speaking on Saturday during the Nakuru Youth Week where he called on the company to offer  permanent jobs to the youth.

“Our county should be the first to benefit from the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Kengen) and GDC as they use our resources to generate power distributed all over the country,” he said.

Kimani insisted on cohesiveness amongst the youth and within youth groups saying that disunity made politicians take advantage of them.

He also insisted on responsible sexual behavior amongst the young generation.

“As the number of sexually active youth increase, there is a significant rise in unwanted pregnancies,” he added.

Kimani also hailed the Presidents order for the crackdown against illicit brew.

“The county's youth department is keen on rehabilitation approaches to affected youths,” he added.
