Nightclubs in Ruiru Sub-County have been blamed for exposing children to immorality and crime.

During a public baraza held on Wednesday at Ruiru Sports Ground, the Anglican Church of Kenya Banana Parish priest, Rev Paul Kinyanjui said owners of such pubs sell alcohol and drugs to minors and youths.

He reckoned that most of the liquor sold at the clubs was illicit and poses a health hazard to consumers.

“Children are the future of our nation, we should teach them good morals as they can be easily manipulated into crime and substance abuse,’’ he said.

Besides making students to engage in retrogressive behaviour, the cleric added that alcohol consumption also affects their education standards.

Kinyanjui further noted that children admitted to the said pubs risk dying following stampedes occasioned by police raids.

He now wants the government to limit the licensing of bars in the region.

The preacher advised parents to know the whereabouts of their children and the people they spend of their time with.

Area chief Joseph Kangethe urged the police not to relent in their crackdown on second grade liquor and curbing crime.

He also underscored the need for parents and teachers to offer guidance and counselling to children.
