The National Transport Safety Association (NTSA ) chairman Lee Kinyanjui has dismissed pleas by the residents of Nakuru to have the weighbridge removed

Kinyanjui said that NTSA had not received any such documents from the residents requesting for its removal.

He however stated that the removal of the weighbridge was impossible.

“It took a lot of revenue to construct the weighbridge. Even the roads adjacent to them take a lot of money. Designing of the weigh bridge into a different area will also take a lot of time and resources,” said Kinyanjui in a telephone interview On Thursday.

Kinyanjui insisted that the weighbridge was need to ensure that the trucks using the roads do not exceed the recommended weight

“The weigh bridges help maintain the axle of the roads,” he added

He pointed out that the public should report cases of corruption cases from the weighbridges to help in maintaining efficiency in the transport sector.

According to Lee, they had installed CCTV cameras all over the weigh bridge to help nab corrupt officers

On Sunday residents of Gilgil had demanded for the removal of the weighbridge claiming it was leading to huge traffic jam. They also argued that it was not generating any revenue for the county.

“There are some assets that belong to the national government despite their current location. Asking for their removal is unrealistic. Its like calling on the port of Mombasa to be moved to a different place,” said Lee
