Speaking in his office on Monday, Chairman George Ongaro challenged the county government to allow registration of the Group since they have been earning income from the activity.

They accused area leadership and the Ministry of Youths-Nyamira County for being an impediment to their efforts to register the association.

“Grave digging is not a sin as many people think. We have been earning an income through the activity and time has come for us to be recognized and subsequently get support from the government,” Ongaro said.

According to them, recognition of the group will allow them to do grave digging as a business and therefore divert the attention of individuals who have been viewing it as a community issues.

“We really want this recognition because it has its own merits. Majorly though, it will make us do the business as a commercial and at the same time absorb more youths to the group hence creating jobs,” he said.

Ong’aro specifically took on Gesima MCA Ken Atuti who is said to be against their move to register the group and vowed to take him head on.

“The MCA thinks we are going to use the group for political purposes and that is not the case. The bottom-line here is that he has to support us or we force our way through,” he said.
