Nyamira County in partnership with Sky power Company is set to build a solar power plant to produce up to 50 Megawatt at Sironga.

The project, which will be done by the Chinese company, is set to counter the frequent power outages experienced in the county, which has been a great concern in the recent past in the region.

Speaking in his office, Governor John Nyagarama said it was high time the power problem was solved to increase economic growth through entrepreneurship adding that the county losses a lot of income due to frequent blackouts.

“Nyamira residents have experienced a long time power outage problem which is has lagged our economic growth behind and my government is soon finding a lasting solution,” he said.

Nyagarama also said the project once complete, will be a source of income for the county since the surplus solar power would be sold to the national grid.

“We will sell our power to the national grid and earn income from the consumers," he revealed.
