Youths in Nyamira County have accused Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leadership in the county of tolerating corruption.
A section of the youths led by Mr Kevin Ongeri on Thursday raised the alarm and called for immediate suspension of the majority leader and Chief Whip Mr Peter Maroro.
“We are very dissatisfied with the way the Cord's leadership in the County Assembly is handling its businesses. They have been watching the county government crumble and this will be major undoing come 2017 general elections. The residents will directly link the undoing of the county to our presidential candidate,” Ongeri said.
According to them, the leadership has failed to curb corruption in the county and accused them of watching Governor John Nyagarama fail to crack the whip on corruption officials.
“They have a clear mandate to guide the county leadership by raising issues to do with corruption. Instead they are ganging against people who condemn corruption in the county,” Ongeri added.
They called for reinstatement of former majority leader Mr Buttah Omanga who was suspended following corruption allegations but has since been vindicated by the court.
Nyamira county government has been in headlines recently with the leadership accused of construction a Sh7 million gate, accusations the leadership has since denied and evaluated the gate at Sh2.5 million.
