Kunya Villagers in Nyando sub-county ha urged Kisumu County government to work in collaboration with the office of the county commissioner in addressing escalating insecurity in the village.

This is after the number of attacks by suspected thugs in the village rose tremendously. Led by Antony Owino, Kunya villagers said they fear for their lives after one of the village residents was seriously hacked by the said suspected thugs on Monday just a day after a pastor was also killed in the same village by unknown assailants.

Owino said that the situation might get out of hand if not addressed as soon as possible.

The residents also lamented that no action has so far been taken by the relevant authority asking in dismay what the security agencies in Kisumu are doing in protecting Kenyans in the region.

They now demand for a quick investigation into the matter urging the elected leaders from Nyando sub-county to be vocal in addressing the residents’ outcry just as they always do when it comes to matters of politics.

Owino also expressed his disappointment by the number of well-known thugs whom he claimed are set free almost immediately after being arrested.

"Sympathising with perpetrators of injustice can never solve insecurity problems, instead cases of thuggery and immense insecurity will be the order of the day in this village," said Owino.

His sentiments were echoed by George Onyango, a resident of Kunya village, who said that even though Police sometimes do patrol in the area, they only target those in drinking dens leaving behind residents helpless in the hands of the suspected thugs.

He told elected leaders from the area to motivate youths as a way of curbing the escalating insecurity within the region.

Onyango said that the residents will soon organise for a meeting with their leaders to address the issue which they say has become a thorn in their flesh.
